I’ve been meaning to create a simple site that’ll let me show everyone all the things I’m doing.
Between getting my house ready to sell, work, and a whole bunch of other shenanigans, I’ve had virtually no time to really get something up an running. But every so often I’ve snuck a little bit of work here and there to get a website up. And well, here it is. I have set up a simple little static site in hakyll, with a template of my own design and build.
I left most social media behind me a very long time ago, and I wanted no real part in it. But now that I have a little bit more money to spend, I thought, why not make my presence known on my own terms?
- I registered my own domain, and created this website, so I can write out my thoughts in my own way.
- I built my own matrix instance so I can chat with people with some degree of security but not be beholden to some centralized chat service.
- I built my own pleroma instance so I can interact with people on ActivityPub but not be beholden to some centralized social media service or a fickle sysop other than myself.
It’s more work for me to set things up like this, but I think that this will be worth it.
Since part of it is on a server I built myself, I like to think that I am doing some sort of “e-homesteading” by building my own things and running them instead of going to the memetic equivalent of a restaurant. What I made surely isn’t as fancy as what the big guys do, but what I made is mine, and what I made was done by my own hand, and I can at least be proud of that.
I’d love to say that I will be regular with posting here but I’m never struck with a writable idea with any regularity. I do hope to see everyone in my next post!
